STATEMENT
My figurative work comes from the well of art history and human history, it’s high points and foibles, mixed with a large dash of humor. Bosch and Goya are touchstones, as are a number of contemporary artists. Mine is a slightly oblique look at our work.
The landscapes result from my time off for good behavior from my studio in the American Burial Casket Co. building in Oakland. They are images from the western United States, Mexico, and Europe.

Jeff Key - Sculptures
The Orchard Galleries on 25th is presenting an exhibition of Jeff Key’s, ”Vessel Series.” On view will be sculptures from the series of “100 Vessels—Theories of Evolution” that Jeff began over 30 years ago. The pieces from this series, although abstract in nature, make allusion to the vessel, a cross-cultural, and at times totemic form, which represents human presence and the cycle of life.
The series, subtitled, “Theories of Evolution” looks at where we are headed as a species and how our actions are affecting the planet. The pieces are primarily constructed with wood and flax, a natural plant fiber. For health and political reasons Jeff stopped using toxic materials when he began the “Vessel Series.”
